Sie verband Schnelligkeit mit Sicherheit, hatte für gute Kurvenlage einen sehr niedrigen Schwerpunkt und war leicht genug, um von nur einem Pferd gezogen zu werden. Zudem war es wendig genug, um im schon damals notorisch verstopften London schnell voranzukommen. Deshalb genossen Hansom Cabs damals ungeheure Popularität, bis zu 7.500 von ihnen waren in London im Einsatz, ehe ab 1908 motorgetriebene Taximeter Cars den Siegeszug antraten.
